Birgit Angelika Schmidt has been working for more than 10 years in the preservation of historical monuments and in conservation science. She is co-founder of Applied Conservation Science and internationally active as a conservation scientist and consultant in conservation planning and lecturer.

She studied art history and graduated with distinction from the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam in Germany with a diploma in conservation and architectural decoration for the application of laser technology and was subsequently involved in numerous scientific projects. In this context she worked for the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Germany and has published numerous studies on cleaning, technology and mineralogical composition of art objects. She is currently working on her PhD-thesis on the extensive collection of early Buddhist clay sculptures from the Northern Silk Road. For the Asian Museum in Berlin she has compiled extensive catalogues on the condition of early Buddhist art objects. 

As a proven sport climber, she has studied rock architecture in detail. In this context, research trips took her to India, China, Greece, Iran and Jordan.

Wanja Wedekind has been working in practical and conceptual monument preservation for more than 20 years. He received his doctorate in geosciences at the Georg-August-University of Goettingen in

Germany. 

He is a trained stuccoer, stonemason, specialist in earthen building and studied at the University of Applied Science and Art (HAWK) in Hildesheim/Germany where he completed his diploma in conservation and restoration with distinction.

As a specialist author and conservation scientist, he has published numerous articles on natural stone weathering, salt reduction and monument conservation issues. He is internationally active as a consultant and is co-founder of Applied Conservation Science. 

He has worked in research, education and restoration projects in Germany and international wide.

He is a member in the German National Committee of ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites), deputy spokesman of the German ICOMOS Working Group for Conservation - Restoration, expert member of the International Scientific Committee of Stone (ICOMOS-ISCS) and spokesman of the stone conservation section of the Association of Restorers (VDR).
